About the Peloton Project
The Cancervive Peloton Project (CPP) is Cancervive’s flagship event aimed at ambassadorship of cancer survivors and awareness of their issues. The annual nine-day bike excursion from Calgary features a group of 30 riders in pelotons of six, cycling relay style 24 hours a day. So far every year Cancervive has chosen a destination to a city that hosts a Lance Armstrong LIVESTRONG™ charity bike ride.
This year we are changing it up a bit and our new destination will be Lewiston, Maine and the Dempsey Challenge. The riders are expected to leave around October 2, 2012. The Dempsey Challenge will be held on October 13 & 14, 2012.
Cyclists will arrive in Lewiston in time to participate in the Dempsey Challenge event. Each rider has the chance to sponsor a Warrior to fly to Lewiston to participate in the weekend’s events and celebrate survivorship. The Warrior Program offers some relief and at the same time gives a dose of hope and inspiration, as the journey through cancer treatment can be a spiritual drain on patients and their families.
This is the first year that Cancervive will be participating in the Dempsey Challenge, who will be in their 4th year of organizing the Charity Bike Ride in Maine. 2012 marks Cancervive’s 8th year organizing the annual bike ride in support of cancer survivorship.
About the Cancervive Challenge
The Cancervive Challenge provides the opportunity for cancer survivors and their supporters to train for an achievable goal and give back to the cancer community. A key to life beyond cancer includes physical activity and peer support - the Cancervive Challenge provides this.
Each participant will train to participate in the one-day Dempsey Challenge cycling event in Lewiston, Maine in October 2012. In addition to training, each rider will raise funds throughout the year in support of Cancervive and Wellspring.
We will be there as one team cheering on each participant as they achieve their own goal.
